I had been waiting to try Little Bangkok for quite some time so when I came across a deal on Groupon for a Thai fixed menu for AED 123, I made sure that I did not skip the opportunity.
Since the voucher could be used at any branch, it was a tough decision to choose from the 7 branches. I and my friend ran through the list and the photos of the JLT branch impressed us the most. We therefore decided to head to the very branch.
The restaurant has a lot of seating indoors plus has some seating options outdoors as well. It is a casual dining restaurant with a pretty good ambiance.
We settled down and showed our voucher which allowed us to choose a drink each, 2 types of dumplings, 1 curry, 1 main course item and 1 type of rice. All this for less than 65 bucks per person was a steal.
For drinks I opted for Pleon chit which is Lychee juice with chili and lime. The fact that there was chili in a drink was interesting and was probably the reason why I opted for the drink. The drink however was average and on the sweeter side. Sad to learn that there was no kick from the chili.
Time for the favourite part of the meal – The dim sums. We opted for Chicken Kanom Jeeb (Sui Mai) which are the steamed dumplings/dim sums. I really liked the dim sums; so yum.
The 2nd dim sum we ordered was Prawn Har Gow. These are the classic Prawn dumplings. These dumplings were good too but not as good as the Chicken ones. Those were like wow.
Post dim sums, it was time for the main course. We ordered for Gaeng Kiew Wang for curry. This was the green curry with aubergines, chilis, kaffir lime and sweet Basil. We opted for the chicken version of the curry. I liked the consistency and the flavour of the curry. Pretty good.
You can’t just have Thai curry alone and need to have some rice to go along. We ordered for the Chicken Khao Pad. The Chicken Khao Pad is Jasmine rice stir fried with an array of seasonings. The dish was above average.
The other main course we ordered for was Pad Med Mamuang. The dish consisted of stir fried chicken in chili paste with crunchy cashew nuts. I would rate this dish as average.
The service is good and the staff is friendly making the overall experience a good one.
If one was to order the dishes we ordered without a voucher, the total cost for 2 (with drinks) would be as follows:
1 Chicken Kanom Jeeb (Sui Mai) – AED 22
1 Prawn Har Gow – AED 24
1 Chicken Gaeng Kiew Wang – AED 46
1 Chicken Khao Pad – AED 34
1 Chicken Pad Med Mamuang – AED 48
2 Exotic Drinks – AED 44
Total – AED 218
