Discover Scotland: Highlands Tour to Loch Ness and Glencoe

If you are dreaming of escaping to rugged landscapes, misty lochs, and charming villages, then Scotland is calling your name. And if you’ve only got a single day to experience the beauty of the Highlands, the Loch Ness, Glencoe & the Highlands tour by Rabbie’s is the perfect way to make the most of it.

I recently had the pleasure of joining this unforgettable 1-day adventure that departs from Edinburgh at 7:45 am (yes, an early start, but trust me – it’s worth it). By the time the tour ends, you will have experienced some of Scotland’s most iconic sights, and your phone gallery will be filled with photos showcasing incredible views Scotland has to offer.

Here’s a little peek into my journey through Scotland’s wild heart and why you should add this to your bucket list.

1. The Scottish Road Trip Begins – Edinburgh to the Highlands

After a warm welcome and a quick introduction from our friendly guide, we set off from St. Andrew Bus Station in Edinburgh. The energy in the bus was infectious as we drove away from the bustling city and into the open roads. Our first stop was the stunning Loch Lubnaig – a serene, glassy loch nestled between two hills. The peaceful atmosphere and still waters made it a perfect place for a quick stretch, some hot chocolate and lots of photos.

2. Glencoe – A Dramatic Landscape Like No Other

As we continued into the Highlands, the landscape started to change, and so did the mood. Glencoe, with its dramatic mountains and sweeping valleys, is one of those places that feels awe-inspiring. Our guide shared tales of this beautiful valley, and I was struck by the beauty of the Three Sisters of Glencoe – a trio of mountains that rise sharply, almost like guardians of the land.

We stopped at the Glencoe Visitor Centre for a deeper dive into the history of the area. The centre offers an interactive experience, perfect for those who want to learn more about Scotland’s rich heritage.

3. Loch Ness – Home of the Legendary Monster

No trip to Scotland would be complete without a visit to Loch Ness, home of the world-famous Loch Ness Monster. We stopped in Fort Augustus, a picturesque village right on the shores of the loch, where you could choose to hop on a boat and cruise the waters in search of Nessie or simply relax and take in the stunning views of the loch.

While some of the group opted for the boat ride to try their luck spotting the elusive monster, I decided to stay back and enjoy the tranquility of the loch. I made my way to Ripple Tearoom and Gifts, a lovely spot right by the water, where I enjoyed a peaceful tea break with a delicious scone. The calm surroundings made it the perfect place to unwind, watch boats drift by, and take in the incredible views of the deep, mysterious waters.

Though I didn’t spot Nessie, it was hard to complain – the beauty of Loch Ness is spellbinding, and the boats gliding through the water added to the magical atmosphere. Whether you’re a Loch Ness enthusiast or just looking for a relaxing moment in one of the most scenic places on earth, it’s an experience that will stay with you long after the tour ends.

4. A Quick Stop in Carrbridge

On the way back to Edinburgh, we passed through the charming village of Carrbridge, home to Scotland’s oldest stone bridge. It’s a lovely little spot for a photo. I grabbed a Ginger Beer and an ice cream as well. Why not spoil yourself when on a vacation?

5. Highland Cows – The Cuddly Giants of the Highlands

One of the highlights of the tour for me was the stop at the Taste of Perthshire farm, where we got up close and personal with the beloved Highland Cows (or “Heilan Coos” as they’re affectionately called in Scotland). These woolly giants are truly iconic, with their shaggy coats and long horns.

But the best part? We got to feed them! Watching the cows eat from my hand while giving them a few scratches behind the ears was such a memorable experience. It felt like a real slice of Scottish life, and it was hard not to fall in love with these adorable creatures.

6. Back to Edinburgh – Full Hearts & Full of Memories

As the sun began to set, we made our way back to Edinburgh, reflecting on the unforgettable sights and experiences of the day. Despite being a full day of travel, the time flew by thanks to our knowledgeable guide and the breathtaking scenery that made every stop feel fresh and exciting.

By the time we returned back around 8 pm, I was exhausted but completely satisfied – and ready to share the magic of the Highlands with anyone who would listen.

Why You Should Take the Loch Ness, Glencoe & Highlands Tour

If you’re short on time but long on wanderlust, this one-day tour is an absolute must. It offers the perfect mix of stunning scenery, fascinating history, and genuine Scottish experiences. Whether you’re soaking in the views of the mist-covered Three Sisters of Glencoe, looking for Nessie in Loch Ness, or making friends with Highland cows, there’s something for everyone on this tour.

The day is well-paced, so you never feel rushed, and our guide made the whole experience feel even more special with his fun facts, anecdotes, and local insights. The group size is small enough to feel personal but large enough to meet other like-minded travelers.

So if you’re planning to visit Scotland and want to experience the magic of the Highlands in just one day, this tour should be at the top of your list. It’s an adventure you’ll never forget!
